Drilling rights sale nets $63-million for Alberta

A slow start for the province’s drilling rights this year.

Land sold in the first auction of 2012 netted $403 per hectare, that’s less than half the $861 paid on average last year according to The Calgary Herald.

Alberta Energy posted the results on its website, saying it raised $63-million for the sale of 157,000 hectares.

In 2011, $3.54-billion poured in for 4.1-million hectares of land.
