United Way exceeds target

Celebrations Wednesday at Calgary’s United Way headquarters with the announcement of their 2011 campaign achievement.
Calgarians helped the organization exceed its campaign target by more than a million dollars.
Volunteers, staffers and agency representatives crammed the office and let out a huge cheer when hearing about the total of $54-million in donations for 2011.
Acting President Heather MacDonald says it’s evidence we’re part of a very caring community.
“I think the achievement of a four per cent increase over last year really speaks well to those that could step up to the plate,” says MacDonald.
The funds raised will support more than a hundred services and programs in Calgary with a focus on families and youth.
