Twenty-one-year-old charged in deadly 2011 crash

Police feel they have scraped together enough evidence to charge someone in a June 2011 crash that killed two people.
Police say a Honda CRV tried to take the ramp at Stoney Trail and McKnight Boulevard at 120 km/h on June 5th, causing the vehicle to flip and roll a distance of 120 metres.
A 20-year-old man and 16-year-old girl were ejected from the vehicle and died, while three others suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Billal Abbou is charged with two counts each of:
Impaired driving causing death
Impaired driving causing injury
Criminal negligence causing death
Criminal negligence causing bodily harm
Cause an accident resulting in death
Cause an accident causing injury
A/Sgt. Colin Foster with the Traffic Reconstruction Unit says the three survivors didn’t make their investigation any easier.
“We had two people pointing their fingers at one person and one person pointing his finger at somebody else,” he explains.
Foster says forensic evidence was sent-out to help prove Abbou was behind the wheel.
“They have their timeline which they adhere to with the amount of work they have. So as a result, this investigation was a little longer, more protracted, than we usually like,” he says.
Foster also says Abbou had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system at the time of the crash.
Abbou is scheduled to appear in court on February 1st.
