Thick black smoke is filling the air in Bankview as fire crews battle a blaze along 14th Street southwest.
Battalion chief Al Magwood says the fire broke out around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.
“We’ve gone defensive at this point, trying to protect the exposures on each side which are occupied houses,” he says. “Right now we have positive pressure fans working to pressurize the house and clear the smoke out so we can actually get to the scene of the fire.”
More than half a dozen engines were called in.
A neighbour who lives in an apartment behind the fire tells 660News the house has been empty for some time now.
“Up until this summer it had people living in it; they had parties on the weekend,” she says.
There are no reports of injuries.
Fire crews expect to remain on scene for most of the day.
