Snow fall causes major slow downs during afternoon commute

Calgary drivers dealt with something they haven’t had to deal with much this winter…Snow!
The snow caused the afternoon commute on Thursday to slow down even more, as we we had intermittent snow fall throughout the city.
660News listener Jason said, plenty of cars were sliding around as he headed north on Deerfoot Trail,”If you tap your breaks, like even tap ’em, you are on your own.”
Meanwhile listener William says the north parts of the city have been hardest hit, “Climbing the hills in Evanston, there are people who can’t get up the hill.”
660News afternoon drive editor Craig Lester described his commute home that took four times longer than usual.
“Country Hills Boulevard was a much different story, it’s also icy so much so, eastbound there is a hill that comes up just prior to getting on the Deerfoot, there were probably seven or eight cars that spun out and the vehicles that did make it up the hill, struggled to make it up the hill. There were guys sitting in their cars in the middle of the road and they couldn’t do anything, because of traffic behind them, and they had to manoeuvre around them to get up the hill.”
Duty Inspector Paul Malcow tells 660News by 8:00 p.m. they were dealing with a handful of accidents but he warned commuters about the morning drive.
“I recommend everyone take their time in the morning, give yourself extra time, leave enough space between you and the car ahead of you.”
Meanwhile Julie Yepshina-Geller with city roads says they have already laid down a mixture that melts the snow and will continue to apply a ”calcium chloride” solution to the roads as the snow continues to fall.
