Canmore firefighters worry changes will put lives at risk

Canmore firefighters are raising concerns about up-coming changes to how the town’s emergency services are run.

On April 1st, Alberta Health Services will take over the town’s ambulance service from the fire department.

Town council has voted that firefighters can no longer provide anything beyond basic patient care once the change happens, even if they are trained in first aid.

The firefighters’ union told the Calgary Herald the changes could endanger patients, because there are often instances where fire crews arrive well before one of the town’s two ambulances.
