Alberta’s Solicitor General denies TV in prison

“No personal televisions for provincial prisoners.”
That’s the message Solicitor General Jonathan Denis is delivering in light of calls for screens to be install in the new Edmonton Remand Centre opening next year.
Federal penitentiaries allow TVs in prisoner cells, but at provincial jails, they are only allowed in common areas, which suits Denis just fine.
He tells the Calgary Sun he doesn’t feel it’s appropriate to have televisions in individual cells as it would be counter-productive to rehabilitating prisoners; he notes as long as he holds his post, that’s the way it will remain.
