Electricity market to be reviewed

The volatility of Alberta’s deregulated electricity market is going to be reviewed by a government-appointed independent committee.

The panel will be led by Ted Pound of the Utilities Consumer Advocate Advisory Board and will issue a report this summer.

Energy Minister Ted Morton says price volatility is a concern for many families.

About 70 per cent of Albertans pay variable electricity rates — a sign the government says shows many people don’t want to sign contracts with power companies.
