Environment Canada issues Snowfall Warning for Calgary

The City of Calgary is under a snowfall warning.
According to Environment Canada, 10 to 20 centimetres could accumulate by Monday night with the biggest snow fall expected to begin Monday morning and may be mixed with rain.
At this point, the heaviest snow is expected west of Highway 2, between Olds and High River.
Tara Norton-Merrin from City Roads tells 660News, a liquid anti-icing aging will be applied once the storm moves closer.
“Typically the snow will start falling and as it hits that anti-icing agent it will melt to begin with and then as the accumulations start coming in more, then they feel the need to start plowing and laying down materials.”
Salt will likely be used on the roads and Norton-Merrin adds that the City encourages commuters to use major road ways as those are the roads which will get plowed first.
“Once we get those priority roads cleared up, we then move on to the priority two roads which are the more major roads that connect to the priority one roads which are a lot of bus routes,” said Norton-Merrin.
“A lot of the time we’ll do those simultaneously so that the priority one and two roads are being done at the same time.”
According to Environment Canada, the warning is due to a low pressure system coming in from Idaho and Montana.
