Flu numbers down in both Calgary and Alberta

For those currently suffering from the flu, it’s news of little comfort.
According to statistics from Alberta Health Services, the number of confirmed cases of influenza is down dramatically this winter season, both in Calgary and across the province.
Here in the city, the number has dropped nearly 50 per cent over last year, and by about 38 per cent throughout the province.
The Chief Medical Officer of Health for the province, Dr. Andre Corriveau, tells the Calgary Herald it’s a very unusual stat and can only speculate about the reasons behind the dramatic decrease. He says an educated guess is this season’s flu strains are much the same as previous years, and that people who have been vaccinated are well protected.
