Earth hour in Calgary

Calgarians turned out their lights for Earth hour on Saturday night but it did not put a big dent in power consumption.

Doris Kaufman-Woodcock with Enmax tells 660News much like last year, there was not a huge change on the power grid between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Woodcock says residents only account for about 30 percent of consumption with industry and business making up the rest.

She says it is important to get people thinking about energy consumption and simple steps which include unplugging appliances when not in use along with using a power bar instead of multiple outlets.
