More weekend gunfire in Calgary

Calgary police are dealing with yet another weekend shooting.

Two men have serious but non-life threatening injuries following an altercation outside a nightclub at 17th Avenue and 9th Street in the southwest.

Duty Inspector Paul Stacey tells 660News, the sound of gunfire erupted around 2 a.m., Sunday.

“How it started was, there was some kind of disturbance between a group of people,” says Stacey. “That culminated in a shooting where two males were shot.  The injuries, thankfully, are non-life threatening.”

“Both males were transported to the hospital in serious condition,” continues Stacey.  “Our units were on the scene quite quickly. And we wound up taking a number of individuals into custody that we feel may have had something to do with the initial disturbance.”

A total of five people are in custody, and police are also interviewing five witnesses.

“We have a number of witnesses,” adds Stacey. “We have a number of people in custody. And we’ve called out our detectives from District 1 to come and investigate this. Right now we’re just holding the scene and we’ll process the scene for any criminal evidence that we may find.”

No charges have been laid at this point, nor do police have a motive for the shootings.

This latest incident comes on the heels of four separate shooting incidents last weekend in Calgary.
