Feds warned not to “cheerlead” for oilsands

The Federal Government’s oilsands policies are being attacked on two fronts.
According to The Calgary Herald, internal documents recently released warn the Harper Tories to “not become cheerleaders” for the oilsands when presenting them internationally, arguing the environmental affects of drilling must be presented along with the financial benefits.
Meanwhile, new NDP leader Tom Mulcair is calling for federal support to be redirected from the oilsands to a struggling manufacturing sector, especially in Ontario and Quebec.
The Calgary Sun reports Mulcair says oilsands-friendly policies are driving up the value of the Loonie which hurts manufacturing.
He claims not enough legislation is being enforced on oilsands companies, and potential health impacts are also being ignored.
