Workers killed on the job or died because of a work related illness will be remembered Friday.
In 2011, 123 men and women died.
Alexander Shevalier, President Calgary and District Labour Council, says along with remembering, it is about improving Occupational Health and Safety standards which means bumping up the number of inspectors from 102 to 500.
“That way they could get to some of the rural and remote locations more reasonably and they could actually start do some really significant industry inspections, especially in high risk industries,” said Shevalier.
The Day of Mourning ceremony will be held at city hall Friday at 11:00 in the morning.
