What form will the Wildrose Party’s shadow cabinet take?

A local political analyst sees the Wildrose Party taking a new approach when it unveils its shadow cabinet, Tuesday afternoon.
Joan Crockatt of Crockatt Communications tells 660News, with only two of the four Wildrose candidates being re-elected, Danielle Smith’s inner circle will be made up of mostly fresh faces — faces trying make an impression on Albertans for the future.
“With 17 MLA’s,” says Crockatt of the province’s new official opposition party, “I think they want to position themselves as somebody that looks like they could be government while they’re in training.”
Crockatt says even though the Wildrose is on the right of the political spectrum, she expects the party will take a moderate stand in order to show Albertans that come the next election voters should be afraid to cast their ballot for them. And with so many fresh faces on both sides of the legislature, she thinks the upcoming chapter of the spring sitting will be anything but boring.
(We’ll) “really get a chance to see what kind of an Alberta we’re going to get moving forward,” adds Crockatt, “based on the people that are going to be in those jobs moving us in that direction.”
She also feels Premier Alison Redford will have no choice but to table a new budget.
“Simply because there were so many spending promises that were thrown around during the election, that weren’t accomodated in the budget that we saw just eight weeks before,” says Crockatt.
In the coming days, Premier Redford will introduce her inner circle as well as setting a date for a second spring sitting of the legislature.
Crockatt feels the Wildrose opposition will keep tabs on the Tory government better than the Liberals and NDP did.
