Redford talks past, present and future at fundraising dinner

PC supporters heard from Premier Alison Redford at the Telus Convention Centre Thursday evening at the annual premier’s fundraising dinner.
Redford told the sellout crowd of 1,800 people that she is ready for any criticism aimed at oil and gas projects.
“This government will not back down from supporting pipeline projects such as Keystone XL or from defending the oilsands from critics across the border or here at home,” she said.
Speaking to the media before the dinner, Redford said her government has already started implementing her campaign promise to build new family-care clinics.
“Family-care clinics are going to be funded through the funding that we currently have available for primary health care and we have the ability to do that now, so we will continue to do work in family-care clinics,” she said.
Redford also took the opportunity to address federal NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair’s disparaging comments about the Alberta oilsands.
“What do I think he’s wrong about is his understanding with respect to approaches that we’re talking in Alberta both through government and industry with respect to emissions,” she said. “He was throwing out an awful lot of statistics with respect to emissions that I don’t believe are accurate and I think they’ve been disproven by theory in the past.”
She’s also pledging next year’s budget will be balanced.
