Job turmoil at Calgary Zoo

A city union is speaking out about recent job cuts at the Calgary Zoo.
President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Don Monroe, tells The Calgary Sun they’ve filed complaints to the Alberta Labour Relations Board after learning 16 employees may be loosing their positions.
The employees are being offered part-time jobs at the Calgary Zoological Society, but Monroe says the staff will lose wages and seniority and claims the Zoo Society is just trying to get rid of the union.
Zoo Spokeswoman Laurie Skene says the decision was made partially due to a review of a number of animal deaths which suggested having two employers on site posed a problem to the welfare of zoo operations.
