The Harper Government proudly announced Friday, people travelling abroad can now bring back more goodies without paying taxes on them.
New rules came into effect today that raise duty free limits for most trips south of the border and raise the exemption to 200 dollars for 24 hours and 800 dollars after 48 hours.
Ted Menzies, Minister of State Finance says the volume and quantity limits on alcohol and tobacco products are not affected.
Menzies adds, he would prefer Canadians spend money at home, but he says it’s a reality that consumers travel to the U-S and will buy items there.
Retailers are voicing concern about the new measures but the Canadian Consumers Association of Canada applauds the increase.
