Cab driver and customers help foil bank robbery

Two bank customers and a taxi driver who refused to leave, helped foil a bank robbery in south Calgary Tuesday afternoon.
A man approached the teller at the CIBC branch in the 6200 block of Macleod Trail South just before 2:00 p.m. and was given some cash and then ran.
Once outside, the suspect jumped into a cab, but when the driver refused to leave, he fled the cab on foot.
Two people who were in the bank at the time of the incident, realized what was happening, followed the offender and were able to grab him and wait for police.
49-year-old Phillip Alan McLaughlan, formerly of Red Deer, was charged with one count of robbery.
All the stolen money was recovered.
