Brownouts not likely today: AESO

Alberta’s Electric System Operator does not anticipate any brownouts Tuesday in the province.

Spokesman Doug Simpson says it was very unusual when six power generation plants went down Monday, which prompted the need to shutdown parts of the grid from time to time.

“It doesn’t happen very often, the last time we had to ask for a reduction in load was July 2006, so it’s a very rare event.  But it does happen from time to time, we have a plan in place that helps us be prepared,” says Simpson.

He adds, until things cool down, they would appreciate if people did scale back their electricity consumption.

AESO will review the latest power disruption and see what changes can be made to improve the system, if any.
