Possible vandalism of Aboriginal etchings probed

Mounties and archaeologists say it may be difficult to prove some historic native etchings have been vandalized in southern Alberta.
Local historian Stan Knowlton says they believe a pressure washer, power tools and detergent were used to destroy the carvings, about 200 kilometres south of Calgary.
Alberta Culture says they don’t have a record of what the rock art looked like before its current state, and that could make proving the damage near impossible.
Curator Jack Brink tells The Calgary Herald, ‘erratics’ are rocks transported by glacial ice, and are a unique feature to Alberta.
Alberta’s aboriginal people often embraced them by making etchings on their surface.
Alberta Culture plans to send a staff member out to assess the site.
