Critics aren’t happy with a new provincial energy bill.
The idea behind the Responsible Energy Development Act is to better regulate resource development in the province, but some say it comes at the expense of landowners and the environment.
Wildrose leader Danielle Smith says it feels like a “Franken-bill” and that forcing different pieces of legislation together will not solve any problems.
Critics say the bill has many flaws, including the removal of a landowner’s right to go before the Environmental Appeal Board.
But Energy Minister Ken Hughes tells The Calgary Herald actually provides more rights, requiring regulators to give more notice to landowners.
