HPV vaccine gets thumbs up from Catholic School District

Calgary’s Catholic School District has voted to allow HPV vaccinations in schools after receiving overwhelming support from parents.
During consultations held throughout November, the district found 91 out of 104 responding schools favoured the school-based program.
Parents will still need to provide consent to have their child vaccinated, a standard practice in both public and separate school boards.
The board previously had rejected allowing the vaccine in schools at the suggestion of spiritual leader Bishop Fred Henry, who initially suggested the measure promoted promiscuity.
He denied that claim in a statement issued last month.
