Alberta schools ordered to stop using lanyards

The eight-year-old boy was rushed to hospital after his lanyard caught on a bathroom door and he was choked unconscious.

Another student found him and called for help.

Lanyards — cords that hang around the neck — are used in the Rockyview division on a school-by-school basis for hallway or bathroom passes as well as identification.

Alberta Education Minister Jeff Johnson says all school boards have been ordered to stop using lanyards until further notice.
