Calgary tweeter broadcasts Checkstop locations

A Calgary-based Twitter account isn’t making friends with local law enforcement.
The moderator has made it their business to post the location of Checkstops around the city, giving drunk drivers ample time to avoid the police.
Since the start of the holiday season, posts have been coming in fast and furious; six alone this past weekend.
The person behind the account also offers to re-tweet any locations to followers for those who might be afraid to identify themselves on the page.
Negative tweets have been deleted and blocked by the account’s creator, who has chosen to stay anonymous.
On the front page is a stop sign that reads “this is a free-speech zone.”
Beneath the image, there is a caption that says “this is for the .049ers.. those who want to be responsible yet would like the odds a little more in their favour.. DO NOT DRIVE DRUNK.”
The moderator has also taken advantage of tips from the public.
In one post they write: “yup they ain’t moving folks, my 3 beers and a hearty dinner will have to find an alternate route.”
Duty Inspector Paul Stacey calls the page irresponsible and lacking common sense.
“I want my family and kids to be safe as possible, and you would think for whatever reason they would want to be as safe, and have their family as safe as possible, but they’ve chosen to do this,” he tells 660News.
“It’s a well-known fact that impaired drivers not only victimize themselves, but they victimize so many others when they’re involved in a crash,” Stacey adds.
Unfortunately, he says there isn’t much anyone can do to stop this individual from giving out the locations, and is appealing to Calgary drivers to use their better judgement.
