Alberta Luge holding recruitment camp at COP

If you’re looking for an activity for your child — but he or she doesn’t care for the traditional team sports — then luge might be the answer.

Saturday at Canada Olympic Park, Alberta Luge is holding a recruitment camp for youngsters between the ages of 8 and 13.

Alberta Luge novice recruiter Lindsay Forsberg tells 660News, the last few camps have proved to be popular.

“Each of our camps had about 20 children in it,” says Forsberg.  “We recruited about 25 new kids into our program last season.  This year so far we’ve only got, I think, six registered in our June camp.  But we still got lots of room available in this one.”

“We just send them down a road on some wheel sleds, the same sleds that we use on the ice,” says Forsberg, discussing what actually happens at the tryouts.  “We just put some kind of roller blade wheels on them.  Let them try out luge, get the feel for it.  And kind of evaluate from there.  See if they like it, see if we think they would be a good fit for our program.”

If you miss this weekend’s camp, don’t fret.  Additional camps are scheduled for August and September.
