Medicine Hat bracing for flood waters

Medicine Hat is one of the 24 Southern Alberta communities under a local state of emergency as they wait for the flood surge to arrive.
City Officials say the mandatory evacuation of about 3,800 homes in low lying areas of the city has been pushed back until 10:00 Saturday morning because Alberta Environment most recent report shows the South Saskatchewan River flow has slowed slightly.
But city spokesperson Wilbur Mclean tells 660News some important resources are being prepped for rising waters
“They are still working on protecting the power plant as well as the water treatment plant we’ll continue to monitor the water levels we’re expecting around noon is when we will start to see some flooding,” says McLean.
The crest isn’t expected until six or eight Saturday night.
Ten thousand or so residents in the flats and other houses along the river will be evacuated.
An evacuation centre is being set up at Medicine Hat College.
