Crews working on berm to open access to High River

Crews have been busy trucking in gravel and bulldozing a berm to open access the community of High River.
The berm will allow officials to bring in some much needed supplies to the community.
BT Edmonton reporter Courtney Theriault says it’s a very eerie scene.
“The entire field surrounding High River at this juncture is drowned in stale water, and it has nowhere to go; it’s pretty much all going to have to be pumped out at this juncture,” he says. “As for the community itself, you can kind of see from the outskirts here, a lot of it does look like it’s still underwater. We were told somewhere in the neighbourhoods of 80 per cent of it, and when you’re talking about having to go through 3400 homes and businesses, this is going to be a monumental task when it does actually begin.”
Even with that connection in place, there’s still no timeline in place as to when residents will be allowed back in to assess damage.
