Fatal crash closes Edmonton ring road

Edmonton Police are trying to determine if it was driver or mechanical error, which may have led to a fatal single vehicle collision in the city’s southeast.

The Edmonton Major Collision Investigative Unit suggests there could have been other factors, such as distracted driving, speed or a medical condition.

A 9-1-1 call Saturday around noon reported an SUV, travelling eastbound on Anthony Henday Drive, swerved off the road and into the concrete base of an overhead sign.

The male driver was the only person in the vehicle.

The southeast section of Edmonton’s ring road was closed for a good part of the afternoon as police completed on-scene investigation.
