Police shut down suspected bawdy house in S.E.

Dover residents can sleep a little easier tonight.

Police have shut down what they believe to be an illegal massage parlour, that may have been operating in the community for years.

One person is facing charges of operating a common bawdy house.

The investigation first began at the building on 34th Avenue Southeast in November, with the Calgary Police Vice Unit and ALERT’s Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Unit.

Staff Sgt. Robert Rutledge says there are hundreds of similar businesses here in the city they need help closing down.

“I think this will send a direct warning to all these illegal massage parlours out there that we are targeting them and we’ve got to clean up their business habits,” he says.

Rutledge says this one was particularly dangerous, due to numerous complaints, and proximity to homes. It’s only 55 steps from a daycare.

According to a court order, the store has to be closed for 30 days.

The lease has also been terminated with the parlour’s owners.
