Canadians asked to share a giving moment

According to the Governor General of Canada, giving is in our D.N.A.

David Johnston is launching a new campaign in hopes of generating and celebrating those special moments when Canucks pay it forward or give back.

The three year campaign encourages Canadians to discover their ‘giving moment’: giving their time, or talent to help someone in need.

You may think that’s a long time for a social media blitz, but Johnston says they didn’t think a one month blitz would have sustainability.

“We thought the ball could get rolling and could roll faster and larger over time, and that we would develop new ideas as we went along as to how to reach more people, and how to reach them in new ways,” says Johnston.

As of Monday morning, over 1,400 people have recorded their giving moments.

The stories range from a woman starting her own suicide hotline, to another donating her wedding dress to a bride in a third world country.

The campaign is supported by Rideau Hall Foundation.
