Alberta’s newest city believes it has set a world record.
Residents of Lacombe, north of Red Deer, say they formed the world’s largest human Christmas tree Friday night.
Almost 900 people, dressed in coloured garbage bags, formed the shape of a tree at ME Global Athletic Park.
Organizer Matt Panelli said they needed to follow strict guidelines to ensure the record will become official.
“There has to be video tape of people coming in,” Panelli said. “Then, they have to be in a specific space, and hold formation for a minimum of five minutes.”
Panelli adds 890 people participated, which he believes broke the old record by 47.
The City of Lacombe will now be submitting video footage of the event to Guinness World Records.
If successful, it won’t be the first world record for Lacombe.
In 2012, the Lacombe Corn Maze earned the title of having the world’s largest functioning QR code.
