Agrium gives $1M to Prostate Cancer Centre

Agrium has handed over a one million dollar check to the Prostate Cancer Centre at Rockyview Hospital.

The donation was made in honour of the work done by Former Agrium CEO and current Prostate Cancer Foundation Chair Mike Wilson.

Wilson says he frequently asked when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and always replies he’s never had the disease.

He got involved with the foundation, because it’s a cause that’s endlessly important to him.

“I have four sons, I have a brother, I have five grandsons, and hopefully one day great grandsons. The probability of one of them getting this is high,” Wilson said.

The cash will be used to support a surveillance clinic that tries to detect the spread of prostate cancer before it becomes deadly.

Dr. Eric Hyndman runs the centre — he says the money will go a long way.

“It’s going to allow us to continue the clinic, and maintain the clinical service that we currently provide,” he said.

Wilson is happy Dr. Hyndman will continue to research the prevention, detection, and identification of prostate cancer.
