TV Blog Buzz: Radnor always knew ‘HIMYM’ secret; Martin’s ‘Game of Thrones’ pull

The much-anticipated “How I Met Your Mother” series finale is upon us with the big mystery set to be revealed. But apparently star Josh Radnor has known the whole story all along.

Fans of the show will finally soon learn the story behind the comedy’s title.

Radnor, who plays Ted, insists he’s been in on the secret since Day 1 and the show’s producers weren’t making it up as they went along.

“I was let in on a big thing (in the) first season,” Radnor tells The Hollywood Reporter.

“I knew that one big plot thing early, but it wasn’t something that I thought about so much as we were going on,” he says. “I always tried to remember that the version of Ted I was playing was moving forward and didn’t know everything. He wasn’t the narrator (Bob Saget), with the benefit of hindsight. It was always better for me to just read the episodes each week and try to play him as honestly as I could each week. I trusted them that they were going to take him on the right journey.”

George R. R. Martin may have written the books that inspired the hit “Game of Thrones” TV series but that doesn’t mean he gets to decide how the show plays out.

Martin tells New York Magazine’s Vulture blog that the show’s creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss consult him on everything to do with the direction of the series — but don’t always take his advice.

“Some character scenes that we’ve lost along the way I would have liked to have seen. If you’ve watched the first season DVDs, there are the auditions scenes from both Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner, one is about Rhaegar’s rubies, at the ruby ford. And they were both great in that, as auditions. I was shocked when the scene wasn’t actually in the show, because it was a beautiful scene between the two girls,” he says.

“But that came out, which happens, you know? There are only so many hours. The show is an hour. It’s HBO, so we don’t have to end in 46 minutes like a network show, but we can go up to like 58, and then, you know, we’ve got to end it.”
