Public Fatality Inquiry concludes 2008 death may have been ‘Suicide by Cop’

The results of Public Fatality Inquiry has concluded the death of a Calgary man was justified.

Back in 2008, Walid Maragan was shot and killed by police along 26th Ave S.W. after threatening them with a knife after he had killed a woman inside an apartment.

The report concludes the man threatened police in an aggressive stance with a bloodied knife and threatened them to ‘come get me’.

Police tried to taze the man, however when that didn’t work, they shot him in the chest.

The report, by ASIRT also suggests Maragan wanted to die by ‘Suicide by Cop’.
