A former member of Stephen Harper’s Conservative caucus is the new leader of Alberta’s Official Opposition.
Brian Jean, a 52-year-old lawyer from Fort McMurray, Alberta defeated two challengers to win the position.
Jean resigned from federal politics last year.
He intends to keep the PC government honest fiscally and to take it to task for its failing health care system.
The Wildrose leadership race became necessary when former leader Danielle Smith left the party.
But Danielle Smith has paid a political price after crossing the floor to join the governing Progressive Conservative Party.
Smith lost the PC nomination in Highwood Saturday night to Carrie Fischer.
The former party leader says that she has mixed feelings with the loss, and although she’s disappointed, Smith believes she helped make Alberta a better place.
Smith left the official opposition when she crossed the floor with 8 other party members.
