The Calgary Courthouse had to be evacuated Monday afternoon because of a small electrical fire.
Just before 4 p.m., fire crews arrived and found staff had already extinguished the fire which was started on a piece of carpet on one of the upper floors in the building.
Battalion Chief Stu Laird tells 660News, the biggest issue they faced was getting everyone out as a precaution.
“It was a large building with a lot of people, it’s a public structure, and although it was a very small issue of an electrical fire in some carpet, crews did check for extensions and nothing was found, so we always have to take those issues seriously because of the amount of people in the building.”
Laird says since the fire was out upon arrival, crews also focused on making sure the building was properly ventilated before leaving.
