A toddler-friendly version of The Nutcracker

Tickets start to sell out well before the big shows of the Christmas season.
And those who’d love to introduce their youngsters to classics like The Nutcracker typically have to wait until the youngsters are older so they can sit still long enough.
A local mom and former ballet dancer is offering up an answer for parents by creating “The Nutcracker in a Nutshell.”
Jenny Repond Peters, artistic director with the Soulocentric Performing Arts Society, tells 660 NEWS it’s a much-shortened version with interaction for the kids.
“It’s just three artists, it’s about 25 minutes long and we kind of go through each little snippet of the Nutracker and we have a lot of fun doing that. There’s a lot of comedy, there’s a lot of theatre and acting. Even though it’s all dance-based, it’s a very lively piece,” says Repond Peters.
She says it’s one play you can go to where you don’t have to worry about keeping the small ones quiet.
There’s also plenty for them to do afterward. The children are invited up to the stage after the peformance to do some dancing with the Sugarplum Fairy and learn the Waltz of the Flowers.
As well, there are games and activities to keep them busy that are tied into the show.
