Police looking for poppy box thief

City police are hunting for a man who was caught on camera stealing from a poppy box located at a SE gas station.
At approximately 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, a man entered a gas station located in the 3100 block of 36 Street and approached an unoccupied till. As he was at the counter, the man attempted to open the poppy donation box. When he noticed the clerk approaching, he made up an excuse and walked to the north side of the store where there is an attached sandwich shop.
While at the counter, the man ordered a sandwich to distract the employee. As the employee made the man’s sandwich, the man lifted the lid off the poppy fund container, removed the money and replaced the lid. He then told the employee he would be right back and left the parking lot in a newer model, blue Chevrolet sedan. The car’s licence plate was from outside Alberta and had blue writing on it.
The man is described as white, 5’5″ to 5’7″, with a medium build and shaved head. He was wearing a red zip-up hoodie with a black ‘Hell or High Water’ t-shirt underneath, blue jeans, and blue and black Adidas running shoes.
In total, 39 poppy box thefts have been reported this year. This is almost twice the number reported in 2014. Three people have previously been charged with six of these offences.
