Alberta still the most generous province

Albertans are still the most generous Canadians, however, fewer Wildrose residents are actually supporting charities.

That’s according to the latest Fraser Institute Generosity Index.

In 2013, taxable donations by Albertans averaged just under $2,400 based on tax returns filed with the federal government. That’s more than $400 ahead of second place British Columbia.

However, Alberta only placed fifth in the percentage of people giving to charity. Just 22.8-per cent of residents offered support, down more than 6 points from 2003. Manitoba led the way in the percentage of givers and percentage of income given to charities in 2013.

The Fraser Institute also found Canadians, as a group, are less charitable than our American counterparts.
