RCMP back with holiday checkstops

Like every year, the RCMP is urging Albertans to not drink and drive this holiday season.

Last year, there were seven collisions involving impaired drivers that caused bodily harm, while there were more than 150 suspensions handed out between December 23rd and January 3rd.

Constable Michale Hibbs said checkstops will once again be going on throughout the province.

“We have more people travelling obviously, heading to destinations visiting family and friends and just getting away for Christmas so it’s a busier time on our highways for sure,” he said. “With the weather the way it is, changing on a moment’s notices, we encourage people to reduce their speed and be vigilant.”

Law enforcement officials also urge the public not to post locations of checkstops on social media.
