Calgary limo driver blasts Uber

A Calgary limo driver says Uber is “bullying the system.”
Joanne Peters, who works for Excellent Limousine says while there is a place for the company in our city, the ride sharing service should be following the same rules and regulations she has to.
Peters says getting a livery license, insurance, undergoing medical and police checks can add up, but part of her job to keep passengers safe.
“I don’t understand why Uber has such an issue by abiding by these rules and regulations. It makes no sense,” she told 660 NEWS.
Her comments come after Uber sent a messages to users complaining about a draft by-law for the City Monday, that would require their drivers to get a comprehensive vehicle inspection twice a year and a criminal background check by the Calgary Police.
Uber called on users to contact local councillors and try and stop the by-law, which heads to City Hall February 22.
“After 14 years, if I was told now that Uber can come and not be accountable, the way that I’ve had to be accountable — that’s offensive to me,” Peters said.
Uber drivers argue the $500 in fees and administrative costs would make it impossible for them to partner with the service.
