Rainy day for Calgary Police Half Marathon

It’s going to be a cool and damp start for the 36th Annual Calgary Police Half Marathon.

Runners and walkers will be tackling the half marathon, 10 km and 5 km courses around the city starting and finishing on the west side of Mount Royal University.

Participants are being encouraged to dress up. There’s prizes for the best costumes.

The first police half marathon was held in 1980 and set out from the Calgary Zoo parking lot with 250 runners.

That has ballooned to 1,500 this year. Over the years, the event has raised thousands for local charities.

The half marathon gets underway at 8 a.m. Sunday, followed by the 10 km at 8:15 a.m. and the 5 km at 8:30 a.m.
