Two people have been charged in Medicine Hat after a concerned citizen was abducted and robbed by an angry driver and passenger.
Sgt. Trevor Humphries says a husband and wife were sitting outside their house last Friday, when they noticed a car driving erratically.
The woman commented loud enough for the driver to hear.
“That caused the vehicle to stop and come back to their property, and shortly after a physical confrontation occurred,” he said.
Sgt. Humphries says the woman tried to write down the vehicle’s plates, which seemed to escalate the situation.
“She was doing what we would hope her to do, she was trying to get some identifiers of the vehicle,” he said. “Through no fault of (hers) she met an angry individual that pushed things farther than anyone would expect.”
She was forced into the vehicle, taken south of town, and dumped in a farmer’s field.
Justin Goodhand, 28, faces a long list of charges, including robbery, kidnapping, assault, and dangerous driving.
Samantha Dawe, 18, is also charged with robbery.
Police say the victim and those charged did not know each other.
“It is a reminder of the cautions we should take around confronting people,” Sgt. Humphries said.
