Last Calgary firefighters deployed to Fort McMurray return home

It’s another positive sign things in Fort McMurray are returning to normal.
With the local Wood Buffalo force now confident they can take control of the situation the last deployment of Calgary firefighters dispatched to the north-east Albertan city returned home early Tuesday evening.
This crew, was one of several to be deployed over the course of roughly four weeks, what makes them special, most of them gave up their own time, volunteering to fight the flames.
Among them Senior Firefighter Patrick O’Neill.
“Definitely an honour to be up in Fort McMurray helping out the fire department and the members there. Nice to be home”
Chief Steve Dongworth looked on proudly as they all disembarked off the transit bus.
“Most satisfying thing for me tonight to see them all back safe.”
According to Dongworth’s math, he believes Calgary has sent roughly 400 men and women since the ordeal began.
Their time up there wouldn’t go out quietly either as they found themselves battling a three-alarm condo fire after a day of putting out hot spots outside of the city on Monday.
Edmonton-based crews returned home on Monday.
Dongworth says they remain at the ready to return if needed.
