Financial expert: don’t forget money goals when planning wedding

Many couples dream of a big wedding celebration: a lengthy invite list, a fabulous venue, beautiful flowers and much more.

But, an expert cautions don’t forget about your short and long term financial goals.

Andrea Andersen, a financial advisor with Edward Jones in Calgary, says a high priced wedding could delay other things you want.

“Some people may spend a lot of money on the photography, because it’s the one thing that you do have to have the memories on after, but what does that spend cost you in the future. Does that mean that you retire a year later? Do you have to work another year? Or does that mean you have to wait another year before you can buy your first home, and you’ll continue to rent?,” she said.

Andersen says a financial advisor can give you a reality check, and its better if that happens before, rather than after the big day.
