Water main break leaves roughly 100 Renfrew homes without water

Roughly 100 homes in the northeast community of Renfrew will be without water for most of the week after a water main break underneath 4 Street NE.

City officials issued a tweet late Monday afternoon, informing residents emergency water wagons were being brought in.

“We’ve been told nothing. We came outside to see what was going on and when we saw our water wasn’t on, there was a nice city worker who said maybe a couple of days,” said Kate Hutcheson who lives in one of the affected apartment buildings.

“I thought maybe 24 hours, and then he said; ‘it looks like we might have to dig up the street’.”

Hutcheson says she and her boyfriend will likely stay home and maybe call on a friend or family member for a favour in hopes of using their shower.

“We don’t even have jugs to fill up with water, so our next step might be a trip to Wal-mart to get some of those,” she said.

The cause of the water main break is still unclear.

A city spokesperson tells 660 NEWS work was delayed to allow residents to move their vehicles and allow equipment in to get at the break.
