Calgary Police say the brazen weekend shooting at a southeast Superstore parking lot which left two men dead appears to be drug-related, as the search for a suspect continues.
Insp. Don Coleman said it’s believed a man approached the two victims – who arrived together and were in their early 20s – at the McKenzie Towne Superstore on 130th Avenue S.E. just before 8 p.m. Sunday and shots rang out.
“It has the hallmarks of some drug-related activity,” he said, adding it’s not clear how many shots were fired or what kind of gun was used.
Coleman said CPS thanks the public for their cooperation, with multiple witnesses coming forward, despite the disturbing nature of the crime.
“It speaks to the complete disregard for public safety a lot of these individuals have in their blatant disrespect for anybody else and their wellness,” he said, adding one of the victims was known to police. “The store was open, there was people in the parking lots, people in their vehicles.”
A vehicle has been recovered, but no one is in custody yet.
While identities haven’t been released by police, tributes have been pouring in on Facebook for one of the suspected victims, Colin Reitberger.
“RIP my son … I’m so empty without you right now,” Jodi Reitberger Hill posted.
“I can’t believe it, you were always there for me, I wish I was there for you,” another post said.
