Calgary native nominated for three CCMA awards

Calgary native Wes Mack is nominated for three Canadian Country Music Association Awards with the song “Listen to Me.”
The nominations are: Songwriter of the Year, Music Video of the Year and Video Director of the Year.
He told 660 NEWS that it was more of an editing project than anything because he spent hours going through home movies, which was probably the coolest part to him.
“I must have called my parents around a hundred times, like ‘oh my god do you remember when this happened?’ I also found myself tearing up at certain things, you start to re-examine your entire childhood,” he said.
While he has directed other videos in his career, most notably the music videos for “Duet”, “Before You Drive Me Crazy” and “Soundtrack” along with others that didn’t quite take off, “Listen to Me” was by far his favourite because it was so different and personal.
He started directing in the early years of the Wes Mack Project.
He explains he had some experience from university and had been on major sets while acting so he would take a stab at it.
“I find that if you just keep your eyes open there that you can learn a lot. So I turned around and took a crack at directing and feel like every video I try to do something new and something different. Somewhere along the lines, I feel like I kinda know what I am doing.”
The music video for “Listen to Me” was released in June of 2016.
Over the past year or so Mack has also been focused on writing and producing music for his second album.
He said that he didn’t want to give himself a deadline of when he had to have the lyrics done, have a single out, or a record finished, he wanted to go through the same sort of process that he went through in 2012 before he released “Duet”.
“The point was to go write and record until I felt like I had it where I want it, which I do now.” He expects to head into the studio again to work on finishing the album.
Mack told 660 NEWS he plans on having a new single out by the end of the year and an album to follow in the new year.
