Mayor Nenshi opens time capsule from 1967

Thousands gathered at Calgary’s Confederation Park in the northwest for the opening of a time capsule from 1967 — the year the large green space was developed.

The event was part of Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations in the city.

Inside, a centennial coin set, newspapers, and the artwork of children.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi used the occasion to remind everyone about the promise of community.

“That promise that it doesn’t matter what you look like, or where you come from, or how you worship, or whom you love. That every single one of us in every single corner of this community has the opportunity right here, right now to live a great Canadian life,” said Nenshi.

Another time capsule, with artifacts from 2017, will be put back in the vault before the end of the year.
